Playstation Credit Card Review

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 26, 2010 | No Comments »

Verdict: The benefits offered with the Playstation credit card may sound good at first – but don’t be fooled. This card only allows you to earn bonus rewards on Playstation and Sony products purchased through the SonyStyle.com online store – really limiting the amount of rewards you can earn.

A much better alternative would be the Discover More Card, which is currently one of the best cash back credit cards out there. With Discover More you can earn 5 – 20% cash back shopping online at popular electronics retailers such as Best Buy and Target as well as 5% back on your everyday purchases in categories like gas, travel, and home improvement. You also earn 1% back on all other purchases.

Overview: The Sony PlayStation Visa Card was created specifically for Playstation owners, and those who are looking to buy a new Playstation or Sony PSP. This ca

J. Crew Credit Card Review

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 25, 2010 | No Comments »

Verdict: Even though J. Crew is anything but a traditional retail store, their credit card is a standard retail store credit card with a high APR and limited rewards program. I highly recommend avoiding this card and instead going with a cash back card from Discover or American Express.

If you are looking to save on apparel purchases, I recommend the Discover More Card over the J. Crew credit card because you can earn 5% back on appeal at ANY store, as well as 5% back on everyday purchases such as gas and home improvement.

Overview: The J. Crew credit card is offered by World Financial Network National Bank. This card allows you to earn rewards by shopping online at J. Crew.

How this card works: By using your J. Crew card while shopping online at J. Crew you earn a gift card for every $500 you spend.

How To: Protect Yourself Against Missed Credit Card Payments

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 25, 2010 | No Comments »

Missed credit card payments can cost you hundreds, even thousands, of dollars each year in late fees and higher interest rates. If you miss a payment by more than 30 days, your credit score may drop, impacting other areas of your life, including your interest rate on new loans and credit cards and even the price of your homeowner’s and car insurance.

Missed payments: Not as bad as they used to be

Granted, the Credit CARD Act protects customers who pay just a few days late. Unless your interest rate is set at a “special” or “promotional” interest rate, you must be 30 or more days late before creditors can enact a penalty or default APR. Under the Credit CARD Act, the “universal default penalty” has also been abolished. Credit card companies can no longer raise your rate due to late payments on other credit cards.

Protect Yourself Against Forgetting to Pay Your Credit Cards

These measures protect customers who may run into financial difficulties. But it’s still

Credit Card Late Fee – What Do I Do?

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 25, 2010 | No Comments »

The Credit CARD Act has taken away many moneymakers for credit card companies, including retro-active interest rate hikes, “universal default” policies, and double-cycle billing. That means credit card companies, who, after all, are for-profit lenders and in the business to make money, are seeking other ways to get money from customers, including higher interest rates and more stringent payment rules.

By the same token, customers have it easier in many ways. Your payment due date must remain the same each month, unless the credit card company gives you 45 days notice that it will change. Credit card companies are no longer permitted to charge additional fees for certain methods of payment, such as online or by phone.

What If I Haven’t Yet Paid Late?

While they can’t charge for phone or Internet payments, credit card companies can charge for special methods of payment, such as overnight payments. In some

I Haven’t Activated My Credit Card, Am I Still Obligated To Use It?

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 25, 2010 | No Comments »

Jamie asks: I was wondering if once you apply for a credit card, and are approved, are you “obligated” to use that card? I haven’t activated it and have only had it for about a week.

Jamie this is a great question. First of all I would say that it’s extremely important to always read the terms and conditions associated with your specific card. Once your application was approved your account was opened, most card companies consider the card activation step optional (meaning they can charge you fees without you even activating your card) . I wouldn’t recommend closing the account unless there is an annual fee because you probably want to avoid taking a hit on your credit.

If you decide to keep the account open – Recently a number of credit card companies have started charging some customers who haven’t used their card in certain number of months an inactivity fee, this is due to the credit CARD act that just went into effect which is forcing the card companies to find new ways to make money. Staples Credit Card Review

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 25, 2010 | No Comments »

Verdict: The Staples Business Credit Card and Personal Card are both decent cards for those who won’t carry a balance and purchase a large amount of ink, toner and paper or frequently use the Staples copy & print services.

Overview: The Staples Business Credit Card and Personal Credit Card are offered by Citi and targeted at frequent staples customers. These cards allow you to earn cash back rewards on popular Staples purchases. Many businesses may look into this card as a way to better manage their cash flow – however because of the high APR I highly recommend you pay off your balance in full each month or you will get killed with interest, especially on large corporate purchases.

Fees: This card has no annual fee.

Rewards: With the Staples Business Card and Personal Card you are enrolled in Staples Rewards. Thi

Office Depot Credit Card Review

Posted by Anthony Jackson at Mar 25, 2010 | No Comments »

Verdict: The Office Depot Business Credit Card and Personal Card both have a high APR and lack any form of a rewards program (the Worklife Rewards program is available to all customers, not just cardholders), as an alternative I recommend looking into a good business credit card from American Express.

Overview: The Office Depot Business Credit Card and Personal Card are both offered by Citi and were created for businesses who need to finance their large purchases and better manage their cash flow.

Fees: This card has no annual fee.

Rewards: These cards don’t have an exclusive rewards program. If you are a frequent customer of Office Depot I recommend signing up for the Worklife Rewards program which is available to all customers and allows you to earn cash back rewards on virtually every purchase you make at Office Depot. W
