Get My Annual Credit Report

Posted by Jeremy Hernandez at May 08, 2010 | No Comments »

I now know how important it is to get my annual credit report. Looking around, I have come across many people who have been defrauded in one way or another. Had I not taken matters into my own hands, I may have ended up in the same situation.

It’s all over the news and it’s happening all over the world. Things have changed in this day and age, giving thieves the upper hand. So, if we don’t do what’s necessary, we are just making it easier for them to take what isn’t there.

That’s where careful review of your credit report comes in. Avoiding this task could lead to financial disaster in some cases. Certainly, even those who are responsible have fallen victim to these thieves, but you can certainly minimize your risk by doing so. For one thing, you can resolve problems before they escalate into something bigger.

Many times even human error is the problem. Read more…

Selling Other People`s Products and Services.

Posted by Gregory Young at May 08, 2010 | No Comments »

Although there are advantages to selling your own proprietary products and services, there are also drawbacks. For example, the time and investment required to produce your own book, invention, or other product could mean a long delay in receiving profits and cashflow essential to your business survival.

For this reason, you may decide to sell other people`s products and services, either exclusively, or to complement your own product line.

You could stock an entire retail store with products, buy a franchise or other business, or obtain a distributorship or dealership. However, this could require a substantial financial investment.

Here, then, are just a few, low-cost ways to profit from selling other people`s products and services.

Consumer Federation of America Asks Regulators to Address RALs

Posted by Gregory Young at May 07, 2010 | No Comments »

The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) is a watchdog group that is pursuing those businesses offering refund anticipation loans. The consumer group has been “mystery shopping” and has uncovered many cases of deceptive practices on the part of a variety of businesses but especially among tax preparation groups.

The refund anticipation loan (RAL) is made when a company offers to give a consumer a loan equal to their anticipated tax refund. The idea is the consumer is able to access the funds much faster rather than waiting for a refund. In this particular request by the CFA, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is asked to enforce banking rules that already prohibit deceptive advertising and false tax return preparation.

The mystery shopping uncovered the fact that some commercial tax preparers are falsifying tax refunds that overstated refunds. The c

Shoppers ‘pressured’ into taking store card

Posted by Anthony Jackson at May 06, 2010 | No Comments »

Among those who do not have a store card, just over half said they had declined one on at least 10 occasions.

Three out of five people with a store card said they had been unaware of the interest they would be charged on it when they took it out, while 59pc did not even realise they would be charged interest on any money they spent, thinking the card simply enabled them to defer payment.

In reality, the interest charged on store cards can be as high as 29.9pc, compared with an average rate 18.6pc on a credit card.

Two-thirds of people with a store card admitted they were in debt after using their card while shopping, while 81pc said when using it they often spent money which they would not have done if they did not have access to credit.

But a savvy 12pc of people said they had taken out a store card in order to qualify for a discount, but destroyed the card immediately after they had used it for the first time.

Ask Creditnet: Best Hotel Rewards Card for Newbies

Posted by Andrea Lewis at May 06, 2010 | No Comments »

Dear Creditnet: My fiancé and I are new to credit cards (we’ve only used debit cards in the past), and we’re looking to get one that will give us hotel reward points.

Any idea which card would help us better our credit scores while banking hotel points as well?

Answer: This is a tough question to answer without knowing your respective credit scores. However, since you mention you’re both new to credit cards, let’s assume you have limited credit histories and thus credit scores that fall on the lower end of the spectrum.

If your FICO scores are 599 and below, what you should be most concerned about is finding a card that you’ll not only get approved for but will also report your monthly payments to the major Credit Bureaus. In essence

Building A Lean-To On The Side Of The Shed

Posted by Gregory Young at May 05, 2010 | No Comments »

Last year, before we moved into our new house, I bought a shed.  I really like the shed.  It’s nice and big and has plenty of space for all of my tools.  I just have one problem -

I also have a lawn mower.

When I put the lawn mower in the shed, it’s difficult to get to my tools.  I really don’t want to store the lawn mower in the garage, it’s taking up to much space in the shed, and I’m certainly not going to leave it out in the rain.

In this picture, you can see the lawn mower.  While it fits perfectly, once it’s in, there’s no room to move around in the shed – or to use the shed for woodworking, painting, etc.  I could just move the lawn mower out each time I want to use the shed, but that’s a bit of a hassle, especially late at night when I just need to run to the shed, grab a couple of tools, and finish up a project.  The lawn mower needs its own home!

So, I’m adding a lean-to to the side of the shed.  The lean-to will be a little over 9 feet long and 7 feet wide.  I’m using some left-over metal roofing for the roof.

I started working Sunday afternoon, laying out the design.  I attached a 2X10 to the outside wall of the shed, to serve as a “nailer” for the lean-to rafters.  I’m using another 2X10 and some 4X4 posts to create the lean-to wall.  The lean-to wall and the shed wall will be connected by 6 2X4 rafters – and some support pieces.  All of the wood is pressure treated, much of it salvaged from other projects.

I worked for maybe an hour on Sunday – and may two hours late this evening.  It’s been raining for most of the past two days, and I’ve been busy with work and family.  Hopefully, Thursday or Friday, I’ll get the roof on, work something out for the lean-to floor, and post some pics.  (I was thinking about just leaving the floor as dirt, but I don’t really like that idea.  I have some old bricks, and I might fashion a little “parking pad” for the mower out of them.  We shall see.)  Oh, one more thing.  The mower will “live” under the shelter during the spring, summer, and fall, but once winter gets here, I’ll put it back in the shed.  I’ll also put it there when we’re expecting any especially bad weather.

As I get older, I find that I enjoy building things, fixing things up.  Working with my hands relaxes me – gives me a chance to get away from all of the stress associated with “real life”.  Plus, there’s something about taking a few boards, adding in a few nails, spending just a little money, and creating something.  It’s hard to explain, but it’s very fulfilling.

T-shirts Are As Ubiquitous

Posted by Gregory Young at May 05, 2010 | No Comments »

Deciding on what kind of shirts to print on is sometimes the most important part of getting custom t-shirts done correctly. However most people are the least informed on this part of the process. So I thought I would try to educate people about this part of the decision making process.
There are many different bands, fabrics, weights, finishes, styles to consider. T-shirts are as ubiquitous as any advertising forum available today. Brand loyalty is great but from my experience most people can’t really tell the difference if two similar shirts are juxtaposed.
I will try to inform you the factors that you should consider. When choosing a shirt I would ask the following questions. What kind of apparel do I want to get printed? 100% cotton, 50/50 blend, ringer tee, raglan tees, jerseys style, tank top, sweatshirts etc. Next is what color of garment? N
