Young Adults Hit With Debt in Chicago Harder Compared to Older People

Posted by Gregory Young at Jan 02, 2012 | No Comments »

It’s a tough time for young adults in this country.

They have dealt with increasing costs for higher education on top of cost-of-living expenses that never go down. They come out of college after earning a degree over four to five years and are thrust into a job market that is the worst in decades.

And so many are becoming adults and starting their lives saddled with debt. Many college students live off credit cards. They get little guidance from their parents or other people of influence who can teach them the dangers of overspending and relying on credit cards, which have high interest rates and hidden fees, especially for people without credit.

One solution to the problem is filing for bankruptcy in Chicago.

My 2011…

Posted by Andrea Lewis at Jan 02, 2012 | No Comments »

A confession

2011 did not turn out the way I thought it would.

In fact, for part of the year, I was frustrated, irritated, and emotionally drained.

Let me give you an example….

I put my heart and soul into a program called “Never Be Stuck.” I was ECSTATIC about rolling this out.

We thought that we would have at least 200 people register.

23 people signed up

11.5% of my goal.

That is not just an F … It’s an F-. If there were a worse grade, it would be a G.

Let’s see

Here are a few other non-accomplishments …

1)    I lost a few good friends who let me down.

2)    My wife and I had more than our fair share of arguments.

3)    My kids had some discipline issues that made me wonder whether I’m raising them the right way.

I’m telling you this for a couple of reasons

First, I want to keep it real. Every year at this time, I

How Do I Select The Best Credit Card For Me

Posted by admin at Dec 28, 2011 | No Comments »

Credit cards are great tools that can be used to build a credit history, have an emergency fund ready and allow for users to make big purchases and pay over time. However, what kind of credit card is going to be the best for you? With so many different cards, it can be confusing to determine what card is going to be most beneficial long term.

How Is Your Credit?

If you have immaculate credit, you might want to find a card that has a 0% APR, or maybe a card that has other perks like cash back or airline miles. However, if you are suffering from bad credit, you might want to look into a secured credit card, or reloadable credit cards that take a deposit upfront for you to use it. Read more…

Munk Debates | Krugman, Rosenberg / Summers, Bremner debate in Toronto

Posted by Gregory Young at Dec 18, 2011 | No Comments »

As usual the pro and con is somewhat artificial but the opportunity to hear these heavyweights in person is well worthwhile.

The resolution:   Be it resolved North America faces a Japan-style era of economic stagnation.

First reaction; all four managed to get through the entire two hours withought mentioning the U word unemployment

We heard the usual economist words such as, demand, growth and lack of both.

Only David Rosenberg, who incidentally despite being Canadian, is the only one of the four that I did not know, made the pragmatic point that there is only a de-leveraging effect from US consumers and there is nothing in the works to change that.

Bremner who was introduced by Summers as someone who raised his first 100 million before he could tie a tie, fell into the trap of being an Ameriphobe.

Repairing Your Credit While Hunting for an Apartment

Posted by Gregory Young at Dec 15, 2011 | No Comments »

Wondering what’s keeping you from landing that dream apartment you’ve had your eye on all this time?  It could be your credit history.

What went wrong?

Maybe you have student loans that were defaulted, a collection or two in your history, or are just in need of credit repair in general.  Whatever the reason, you need to improve your credit score fast to get that apartment you need.  Here’s how:

Tell them how you feel

Getting that right apartment may seem out of reach when you need credit restoration, but all hope isn’t quite lost.  If you already know your credit report isn’t in good shape, you might try being upfront about your situation.  After all, they do say honesty is the best policy.

If you let the manager know that your report isn’t in the best condition and you’re currently undergoing credit repair, they might be more inclined to give you a second look, so long as you don’t have a lot of outstanding debts to other parties.

Cash upfront

If your pleas of seeking credit restoration prove fruitless, consider renting from a private owner.  They’ll usually be more than happy to overlook your past misdeeds if you’ve got the cash in hand for a new apartment.

Try finding a co-signer

If your efforts at credit repair don’t impress the right people, you can try getting a co-signer for your apartment.  This can prove difficult, as anyone who co-signs a loan with you will be just as financially responsible for the property, but it might be the only way to get into your new home.

Start repairing your credit now

You can make your journey to a new apartment that much easier by paying off any outstanding debts that could show up and damage your chances of renting.  Consider opening a secured credit card to start building new, positive lines of credit to help you improve your bad credit score.  If you still need helping building up your credit history, consider using a debt relief or credit repair agency to bolster your chances of successfully obtaining your new apartment.

Shelter Your Credit Scores from Foreclosure and Other Hardships

Posted by Andrea Lewis at Dec 15, 2011 | No Comments »

If you’ve been following the housing industry, then you know that many Americans are underwater on their mortgages and that foreclosures are a regular occurrence. In fact, you probably know some of these homeowners personally. Unemployment, lavish spending and plain bad luck are just a few of the reasons for foreclosure. Regardless of how homeowners wind up in foreclosure, one thing is certain: It could happen to anyone.

Take, for example, a story in the New York Times that reveals how a financial advisor lost his home. He was caught up in the middle of the housing boom when prices were skyrocketing. Instead of living within their means, he and his wife bought a house they couldn’t quite afford. Even though he gave out sound financial advice to clients, he never stopped to question his own lavish lifestyle. Eventually the stock market declined and the housing bubble burst. Aft
