Many people dread retiring, not because they will not be bringing in an income anymore but because they feel that they will be bored. If a person has planned correctly for his or her future than this will not be a problem as there will be savings that this person can take in order to open some sort of side business. Many people think of something that they always wanted to do but never could, maybe because they were working too much or because they had a family to support. This may include opening a small cafe or restaurant or even purchasing a motel along the ocean. These are excellent goals to have in terms of retirement. Not only will you be doing something that you enjoy but you will not have to worry about income as there will usually be some sort of residual income associated with running a business, at least if you are running a business that is successful.
Opening your own business after retiring is a great way to keep yourself active while still earning a little bit of extra income to supplement your retirement fund. In addition, this will allow you to create a nest egg for your family members and dependents will be relying on you when the time comes that you are gone. Retirement does not mean automatically going to an old folks home or having to stay home and watch ballgames all day long while you get fat. It is quite possible to be semi retired with a good retirement plan and operate a business of your own, thereby giving you something to do. You may even want to consider going into business as one of your children as this will form a special bond and could actually wind up being a lot of fun for the both of you. Also, if you have a spouse who is still in the workforce you may need to find something to do to help occupy your time until he/she can retire as well. After the both of you retire, provided you have both had solid retirement plans then you can ride off into the sunset together.
