One of the perks of being an American Express Platinum Card holder is that you get a complimentary Hertz Gold Membership. One of the perks is that you do not have to check in to get your vehicle. And how I wished I have made us of this. This was what happened.
We arrived at Denver at about 11:30pm and by the time we boarded the hertz shuttle bus, it was way past midnight. As we entered the Hertz compound, the driver made an announcement. Hertz Gold members could alight at a stop just before the place where the rest had to check in, and just collect their vehicle. At the “stop”, there was a board with the Hertz Gold Card members name on them. The bus driver reminded everyone that they should check if their name was on the board. Their vehicle number was written beside the names and the keys are in the car. So it is pretty convenient.
Though I had an Amex Platinum Card, Kevin from CreditShout.com actually booked the car rental. Actually, it came with the house that we rented and Kevin was in charge of booking the accomodations. And he did not have a Amex Plat! So we watched as the folks with Hertz Gold membership got off the shuttle and off they went.
We had to go through the usual procedure! When it was our turn, the person asked us if we want to have a ski rack and we said yes. He gave us a Tahoe, but it had no ski rack! So we had to get a new vehicle and we were given a Suburban, which was actually better for our purpose. But the whole process took about 45 minutes! So that Gold membership would have come in really handy! I mentioned in my previous post that we arrived at our place at 4:00am! It would have been an hour earlier if I had booked the car rental instead!
