Verdict: If you buy your gas exclusively from BP gas stations, then the BP Visa credit card offers a solid rewards program allowing you to earn 5% back on your fuel purchases, and 1% back on all other purchases you make anywhere.
If you often buy gas from other stations as well I would recommend the Open Road by Discover card instead, which pays 2% cash back on all fuel purchases – regardless of the gas station, and then allows you to earn 1% cash back on all other purchases.
Overview: The BP Visa Credit Card is a gas rewards credit card offered by Chase Bank and allows you to earn bonus rebates on any gas and other qualifying purchases at BP Gas Stations.
Fees: This card has no annual fee.
Rewards: This card actually has a very solid rewards program for those who frequently buy gas from BP Gas stations. The BP Visa Card allows you to earn 5% back on all eligible purchases at BP Gas stations, and then 2% back on travel and dining purchases including airline tickets, rental cards, hotel rooms and at restaurants. You can also earn 1% back on all other purchases you make with the card.
This is one of the few gas station specific cards that is actually better than a general gas rewards card like Discover Open Road – assuming that you buy gas exclusively from BP.
It’s also worth noting that for the first 60 days that your account is open you receive double rewards so – 10% on all eligible purchases at BP locations, 4% on travel and dining, and 2% on all other purchases.
There are three ways with the BP Visa to redeem rewards after you’ve earned at least $25.
- $25 BP Gift Cards.
- Checks made payable to you.
- Your rewards can also be donated to The Conservation Fund. (Which can qualify as a tax deduction.)
I would personally choose the check option when redeeming rewards. I’ve found that it’s easy to lose gift cards and I also find it hard to keep track of the current balance on the gift cards – cold hard cash is a much better choice in my opinion.
Pros:
- No Annual Fee.
- Easy to Earn Rewards.
- Great Rewards Program.
Cons:
- Average APR.
